TUFF LOVE SELF-DEFENSE
WHO WE SERVE
Tuff Love Self-Defense provides free safety and self-defense training to our community, emphasizing the needs of underserved groups including women, elders, youth, AAPI people, and LGBTQ+ people.

WHAT WE TEACH
Violence and assaults are never the victim's fault; they are the fault of the attacker. With that in mind, we teach measures that can help people stay safe. Our award-winning program consists of two distinct but complementary pillars:

1. EARLY PREVENTION AND DE-ESCALATION
Prevention is always the best self-defense. Students learn to avoid dangerous situations by heightening awareness, recognizing danger signs, employing verbal strategies, setting boundaries, and using intuition and critical thinking to prevent confrontation.

2. PHYSICAL INTERVENTION
Our interactive training and practical, real-world strategies empower participants to take action while prioritizing safety. Rather than relying on strength, our methods use martial arts principles of leverage, proper body mechanics, timing and energy efficiency to defend against a bigger and stronger assailant. Students learn through real-life scenarios, interactive practice, and partner drills. Regardless of age, size, strength or physical ability, participants can learn the techniques of self-defense while gaining an increased sense of personal confidence and empowerment.
