Free AAPI Self-Defense Workshop

Workshop is exclusive to AAPI people. Space is limited, register now!

Sunday, May 26, 2024

In celebration of AAPI Heritage Month, Tuff Love and Compassion in Oakland are thrilled to announce an upcoming AAPI Safety & Self-Defense Workshop! This workshop will focus on safety fundamentals including awareness strategies, distance management, standing escapes, purse-snatching prevention, safety tools such as pepper spray, and more. Free safety tools and snacks will be provided.

This workshop is exclusive to AAPI people. Space is limited, so please RSVP only if you are certain you will attend (see note about “Cancellation” below).

The AAPI SAFETY & SELF-DEFENSE WORKSHOP teaches awareness and safety strategies to avoid assaults before they happen. Students will also learn effective physical techniques addressing the most common attack situations: pushes, pulls, grabs, and purse-snatches. Rather than relying on strength, students will learn the principles of leverage, timing, and energy efficiency to defend against a stronger assailant. Regardless of age, size, strength, or physical ability, students can learn the techniques of self-defense while gaining an increased sense of personal confidence and empowerment.

The course will be taught by Mollii Khangsengsing, the first Laotian female black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) with 17+ years of training and teaching, founder of Sweaty Betties and co-founder of Tuff Love Self Defense.
