The Girls and Women’s Self-Defense Program is reinventing itself during this pandemic. To help slow the spread of the coronavirus, we have suspended our in-person workshops and shifted online until further notice.

Fierce and Fit is a solo full-body workout that will have you moving, while at the same time learning the core self-defense movements of our Girls and Women's Self-Defense program. The classes integrates physical education and self-defense techniques with conditioning and skill-oriented drills aimed at improving coordination, motor skills, agility and flexibility.

Classes are offered once per month on Zoom. The class is free (donations are appreciated from those who are able) and taught by a female Brazilian jiu-jitsu blackbelt.

Fierce and Fit classes include the following areas of focus:

  • Stretching/Warm-up: Get loose and get ready.

  • Footwork: Fight stance essentials and dynamic movement preparation.

  • Lower Body: Kicks, knees, lunges and booty sculpt.

Tuff Love Self-Defense Workshops

Suspended until further notice due to Covid-19 Pandemic

Begin your journey towards self-empowerment by learning how to protect yourself in a safe, supported, empowered environment.

Once a month we offer  a 2-hour Women’s Self-defense Workshop taught by seasoned female Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belts. Each workshop is designed with women's experiences, strength and capabilities in mind. The workshop will prepare you for common attack scenarios women often encounter and how to thwart them. You’ll learn a set of safety strategies and leverage based physical techniques that will help you prevent, escape, resist and survive assaults from bigger and stronger attackers. The workshops are held on the first Saturday of each month at Four Elements Fitness in Oakland, CA.

At the workshop you will learn life saving skills such as:

  • Simple and practical safety strategies and assertiveness skills

  • Hone your intuition to practice anywhere

  • Boundary setting and self-advocacy in dangerous situations strangers, and everyday interactions with people we know

  • How to make yourself a “hard” target to prevent potential attacks

  • Learn the concepts of distance management to avoid getting punched or grabbed

  • How to break free from an attacker who grabs you without warning

  • How to escape from underneath an attacker who has you pinned you to the ground

  • Selected self-defense techniques designed to work regardless of fitness level or size that are quick to learn, easy to retain and simple to execute.

Each workshop starts with a series of warm-up exercises followed by instruction in a specific skill, and techniques practiced with a partner. The workshops end with partner drills to build confidence and strengthen muscle memory.

Women and girls ages 9+ are welcome. No experience required.
